Collaborations with Wes
Madeline Wood - United Junior/ Senior High School - United Red Storm
Working with Wes on my junior high band’s first commission was an absolute joy. He has a clear understanding of the needs of the ensembles he writes for and was open to feedback throughout the entire process. When Wes visited to workshop the piece with my students, they were energized and inspired—and thrilled to meet the composer behind the music they were performing!
Afterward, I asked my students to share their thoughts, and their responses said it all:
“I really liked getting to be the first people to play The Red Storm! It was really cool and sounded just like a storm. I appreciated the opportunity to perform that piece.”
“I think the beginning of the song was really interesting. It sounded ominous at first and then fast and loud later. The dynamics were really good too.”
“I loved the way The Red Storm! sounded, and the beat was stuck in my head. My family liked it a lot too—they said it sounded unique and fun!”
I look forward to collaborating with Wes again on future projects!
